Expresses how much of the original acid was actually consumed, exposing the gap between pH intensity and real buffering quantity.

Worked example

(0.01 - 0.009988) / 0.01 x 100 = 0.12%. A gallon of alkaline water neutralizes about one-eighth of one percent of stomach acid.
