Feedwater Tank

Definition

The storage reservoir of hot, treated water that the boiler feed pumps draw from, often integrated with the deaerator. It is the second link of the boiler circuit.

The feedwater tank holds the blend of returned condensate and fresh makeup water that supplies the boiler. Its temperature and conductivity set the baseline for everything downstream, so a cold or contaminated feedwater tank cascades problems through the boiler and steam system. Returned hot condensate raises its temperature and lowers its conductivity.
