Definition

Highly soluble ions like sodium and potassium that rarely form scale and ride along largely inert, useful for tracking cycles of concentration.

Sodium and potassium rarely form scale and are mostly passive passengers in water treatment. Because of their high solubility they stay in solution as water concentrates, making them reliable tracers for accurately determining cycles of concentration. They are removed when necessary through reverse osmosis and demineralization.
