Strong acid dissociation
Definition
A strong acid splits completely into ions the moment it touches water, releasing free protons. Hydrochloric acid dissociates as HCl gives H+ plus Cl-.
The flood of new protons reacts with available hydroxide almost immediately, collapsing the hydroxide population and shifting pH acidic. A new equilibrium forms with excess hydronium and deficient hydroxide. This complete and instant splitting is why acids reinforce hydronium so sharply.
