System Volume Turnover
Definition
The sizing metric for filtration that targets passing the entire system volume (basin plus piping plus exchangers) through the filter within a set time.
The general rule is at least once every 4 hours, with 2 to 4 hour targets for high dust, heavy construction, chronic sediment, degraded fill, or critical reliability. Example: a 3,000 gallon system at a 4 hour target needs 750 gallons per hour, about 12.5 GPM, roughly 1.6 percent of an 800 GPM recirculation rate. It converts a cleanliness goal into a concrete flow rate.
