Temperature compensation
Definition
Temperature compensation is a correction many pH analyzers apply to electrode response so that readings account for how temperature affects the measurement. It corrects electrode behavior, not the underlying chemistry.
Compensation does not force hot pure water to read pH 7, because neutral pH genuinely shifts when Kw changes. Operators can be misled if they assume a compensated meter means neutrality is always at 7. The correction addresses electrode response only, while the true neutral point still moves with temperature.
