Stoichiometric Ratio (Sodium and Chlorine 1:1)

Determine the amount of one reactant needed to fully react with another, since atoms combine in fixed numerical ratios. Sodium and chlorine combine one to one to form sodium chloride.

Variables

SymbolMeaningUnit
Moles of sodium requiredmol
Moles of chlorine presentmol

Worked example

Given 0.141 mol of chlorine atoms, you need exactly 0.141 mol of sodium atoms. Converting back to grams: 0.141 mol times 22.99 g/mol = 3.24 grams of sodium.
