Biocide demand

Definition

The amount of biocide consumed by a system to achieve a target kill, which rises when deposits and organic matter consume chemistry before it reaches organisms.

If biocide demand is rising without a corresponding increase in system loading, biology is establishing faster than treatment is disrupting it. Rapid consumption despite adequate feed indicates chemistry is being intercepted by EPS before reaching organisms. Tracking demand over time is a key reconnaissance signal for hidden biofilm activity.
