Connected Failure Modes
Definition
The bidirectional physical, chemical, and biological pathways that link the four pillars so that one problem feeds another.
Scale and corrosion are linked through deposits, pH, and thermal stress. Biology and corrosion are linked through MIC, shelter, and corrosion products. Biology and scale share surfaces and reinforce each other, and suspended solids amplify all three. Recognizing these couplings lets symptoms sort themselves into causes rather than appearing as isolated failures.
