Definition
The four recurring forces that act on every industrial water system: corrosion, scale, microbiological growth, and suspended solids.
These pillars represent the recurring failure modes that water treatment manages. They are always present and never negotiate, but they are not separate boxes. They couple together through physical, chemical, and biological pathways, so a problem in one pillar routinely feeds the others. The goal of treatment is balance among them, not victory over any single one.
