Film-Forming Amines

Definition

A newer class of amine chemistry that adsorbs directly onto the metal surface to create a hydrophobic barrier between the steel and the corrosive condensate, rather than neutralizing acid in the bulk.

Instead of raising bulk pH, these compounds form a protective film on the pipe wall, and some products combine film-forming and neutralizing properties. The barrier approach can work where traditional neutralization is hard, such as long runs, low condensate return, or highly variable alkalinity. They represent an alternative defense against condensate corrosion.
