Filming Amines
Definition
Filming amines, also called film-forming amines, bond to metal surfaces in boilers and condensate systems to create hydrophobic protective barriers. They protect against oxygen, carbonic acid, and iron transport.
Like azoles, they prevent contact between water and metal rather than slowing an active reaction, forming a hydrophobic layer that shields the surface. They are applied in boilers and condensate systems where oxygen and carbonic acid attack is a concern. They are a film-forming inhibitor strategy for interrupting circuit assembly.
