Galvanic Couple
Definition
A corrosion cell formed when two dissimilar metals are joined in an electrolyte, driving accelerated attack on the more active metal.
At a fitting where different metals meet, one becomes the anode and corrodes preferentially. It is one of the named corrosion mechanisms in the electrochemistry chapter. It is a common breach point that the corrosion cell exploits. The blueprint treats it as a connection point to inspect.
