Gas Solubility and Temperature
Definition
The behavior that gas solubility falls as water warms, so dissolved carbon dioxide escapes from heated water.
As CO2 leaves, the carbonate equilibrium chases what it lost, pulling back toward CO2/H2CO3 and consuming hydrogen ions, which raises pH. This is one of the three temperature effects that together set up scaling conditions. It is also a key driver of pH drift in heated open systems.
