Definition
The defining mark of a destructive reaction is that it produces something that will not spontaneously return to what it was under system conditions.
Acids, bases, and oxidants attack matter differently, but destructive damage always leaves a product that does not reverse on its own. The lye scar in the Fight Club scene illustrates the rule: the body heals around the damage but cannot reverse the chemical transformation. The original arrangement is recovered only with external work.
