Strong base attack (saponification)
Definition
A strong base such as sodium hydroxide destroys tissue not by oxidation but by tearing apart the molecules that hold it together, turning them into soap.
Sodium hydroxide does not steal electrons; it dissolves the fundamental architecture of tissue. This illustrates that destructive chemistry is not limited to oxidizers: acids, bases, and oxidants can each produce irreversible structural damage. The resulting scar is proof the transformation does not reverse itself.
