Weighted Average
Definition
A blending calculation where the combined property of two streams is weighted by their flow rates.
When two streams combine, the resulting temperature, conductivity, or dissolved oxygen is the flow-weighted average of the two inputs, given by Result = (Q1C1 + Q2C2) / (Q1 + Q2). Q is the flow rate and C is the property being calculated. This is the calculation behind the boiler feedwater mixing example, where condensate return and makeup combine into feedwater.
