ATP assay
Definition
A rapid test that measures total biological energy as adenosine triphosphate to estimate microbial activity within minutes.
The ATP assay is fast and field-ready, giving results in minutes, but provides no species identification. It measures the water column unless a surface swab is taken. Like other bulk tests it indicates planktonic activity rather than biofilm on surfaces.
