Amine Volatility

Definition

The property that determines how far an amine travels in the steam system before it condenses. It dictates which portions of a distribution system each amine protects.

Amines that condense quickly protect the early portions of the steam system, while those that travel farther protect distant runs. Matching volatilities to system geometry is why blends are used on large campuses with miles of steam tunnels. Choosing the right volatility profile ensures pH protection from the boiler to the farthest return.
