Boiler Tubes

Definition

The metal heat-transfer surfaces inside a boiler where combustion energy passes through metal into water. They are the boiler’s reason for existing and its most vulnerable component.

On one side combustion gases reach 1,500 degrees F or higher, while on the other side circulating water must absorb that energy and keep the metal cool. Any scale or deposit that insulates the tube from the water disrupts the exchange and lets the metal temperature climb toward failure. Protecting the tubes is the ultimate purpose of pretreatment and boiler chemistry.
