Chiller Circuit

Definition

The cooling loop running from a building load to a condenser to a cooling tower, with water as the medium and evaporation as the mechanism.

Water is the medium because of its heat transfer properties, evaporation is the cooling mechanism, and cycles of concentration are the key operator lever. It is the worked cooling application the closing chapter revisits. Each part of the loop sets conditions for scale, corrosion, and biology. Keeping the tower stable reduces the energy consumed by the chiller it serves.
