The Four Pillars
Definition
The four primary water treatment problems (scale, corrosion, biological fouling, and suspended solids) seen as interacting forces rather than separate issues.
They press on every wetted surface simultaneously and are connected by physical, chemical, and biological pathways so a change in one becomes a consequence in another. Heat and flow are the conditions that govern all four. Treating them as a coupled system, rather than isolated faults, is central to the blueprint. Suspended solids in particular amplify the other three by creating deposits that change the local rules.
