Condenser Approach
Definition
The temperature difference indicating how closely a condenser reaches its cooling potential, which widens as surfaces foul.
As scale forms on condenser surfaces, condenser approach increases and chiller efficiency drops. Rising approach temperatures are one of the quiet whispers by which scale announces itself. It is a downstream symptom in the lost-blowdown-control cascade.
