Corrosion Products

Definition

Solid, discrete particles generated by corroding metals such as iron oxide from steel, copper from brass, and zinc from galvanized surfaces.

They do not redistribute via equilibrium chemistry and therefore behave like suspended solids. In a neglected closed loop, accumulated corrosion products can discolor water brown, black, or green. They feed the compounding cycle by producing more solids that form more deposits.
