Dispersion
Definition
Keeping forming particles small, irregular, and suspended so they are carried out of the system rather than depositing.
Polymers suppress aggregation so crystals stay weakly associated and suspended instead of forming dense adherent deposits. Suspended particles are more easily transported out through blowdown or filtration. Dispersion complements crystal modification in keeping solids from organizing into fouling deposits.
