Puckorius Scaling Index

Definition

A refined scaling index that uses the equilibrium pH after precipitation instead of measured pH to account for buffering capacity.

PSI equals two times pHs minus pHeq, where pHeq equals 1.465 times the log of total alkalinity as calcium carbonate plus 4.54. By using the equilibrium pH it recognizes that chemistry in an operating tower does not stand still, which is valuable for high alkalinity waters and towers where carbon dioxide is constantly stripped. Its interpretation can diverge significantly from LSI and RSI.
