CO2 Generation Rule of Thumb

Definition

The field estimate that roughly 0.79 ppm of CO2 is generated for every 1 ppm of M-alkalinity as CaCO3 in boiler feedwater.

It lets an engineer quantify boiler CO2 generation and budget chemical demand, for example 100 ppm alkalinity as CaCO3 yielding about 79 ppm CO2 in the steam or condensate. It is a field estimate, not a universal stoichiometric law, because actual generation depends on boiler pressure, alkalinity form, cycles, steam purity, and operating conditions. High alkalinity means high chemical demand whether managed upstream or downstream.
