Neutralizing Amine Treatment
Definition
The strategy of dosing volatile neutralizing amines that travel with the steam and condense with the water to raise condensate pH and neutralize acidity before carbonic acid can attack metal.
Amines volatilize with the steam and recondense in the condensate, raising pH toward a target of 8.3 to 8.8 and neutralizing the carbonic acid formed there. This is the downstream, operating-cost route to interrupting the carbonate cycle. Typical dosage is roughly 2 to 3 ppm of active amine per 1 ppm of CO2, though it is product-dependent.
