Sand Filter
Definition
A granular media filter that captures fine silt down to roughly 10 to 20 microns with low maintenance automatic backwash.
It is the best general choice for cooling tower sidestream use but blinds quickly if loading is dominated by heavy debris that should have been settled first. It captures silt that gravity settling cannot remove. It is one of several media options selected by particle size distribution and loading.
