Definition
Dissolved oxygen is the concentration of molecular oxygen in water, a primary parameter to monitor for destructive oxidation.
Whether dissolved oxygen stays in solution depends on feedwater temperature, which the operator checks when diagnosing low sulfite. It is the corrosive agent that the deaerator and sulfite scavenger together remove. Its solubility decreasing with heat is the basis of the temperature paradox of corrosion. Increased oxygen load is a common true cause behind a low sulfite reading.
